Regional ED Nurse Education Program Launches in Denmark

After training 320 nurses in 2016 with the development and implementation of a regional nurse education program, HMFP and the Region Sjaelland ED nurse education project team launched the 2017 nurse education program this January at the hospitals of Slagelse, Nykobing Falster, Koge, and Holbaek. We expect 350-400 nurses to be trained this year, as staffing has increased. This year's education topics include: neurological emergencies, EKG interpretation, pediatric orthopedic emergencies, abdominal emergencies, and DKA.The project collaboration has gained positive feedback in the last few months. Abstracts describing the collaboration were accepted for an oral presentation at the 2nd Global Conference on Emergency Nursing & Trauma (Barcelona), and as poster presentations to: ENA (Los Angeles), EuSEM (Vienna), and DASEM (Copenhagen).  We are currently working on an academic paper with the region and intend to submit it to the Journal of Emergency Nursing in the next few months.We are pleased to have helped our emergency nursing colleagues in Denmark make such a significant contribution to emergency nurse practice. With our department’s, Region Zealand has developed the first standardized, competency-based emergency nursing education program in Denmark and is now on the path towards providing high-quality care, impacting patient outcomes through consistent standardized education delivery.
