International Projects Division Hosts Moroccan Medical Students in Boston
During the first initiative of our partnership with the Fondation Cheikh Khalifa Ibn Zaid, Morocco, and its associated university, Université Mohammed VI des Sciences de la Santé (UM6SS), our International Projects Division hosted 12 medical students from UM6SS in Boston for a 2-week clinical education program. Led by Dr. Jonathan Edlow, Vice-Chair of Emergency Medicine, BIDMC and Professor of Medicine & Emergency Medicine, Harvard Medical School, the program included a variety of workshops and activities that were tailored to complement the curriculum of the medical students in Morocco. Some of the program highlights included:
- Clinical lectures and seminars;
- Medical simulation workshops;
- Case presentation workshops;
- Guided clinical observation at multiple teaching hospitals;
- Networking meetings with residents and medical students to learn about US trainees’ experience and their perspective on the US medical education system;
- Career advice meetings and discussion;
- Patient history & physical exam workshops.
The next initiative, a 4-day clinical research workshop, will take place in Casablanca later this month. Led by Dr. Mike Donnino, a team from HMFP will provide our Moroccan colleagues with an overview of best practices for conducting clinical research in their chosen field.
