175 people attend Global Response to Emerging Infections Symposium

There were 175 people in attendance for the Global Response to Emerging Infections Symposium, sponsored by the BIDMC Fellowship in Disaster Medicine. The symposium was held on January 29 at Harvard Medical School, Joseph B Martin Conference Center. The Honorable Jeremiah C. Sulunteh, Liberian Ambassador to the US, as well as the Honorable Lene Sebgo, Burkina Faso Minister of Health, delivered very passionate speeches about their Ebola-ravaged countries. The Keynote Speaker, Gavin MacGreggor-Skinner, Assistant Professor, Department of Public Health Sciences, Penn State University, gave an incredible talk about his leadership during the Ebola eradication in Nigeria and treating the first patients in Atlanta and Dallas. Ken Isaacs, former Director of Foreign Disaster Assistance for USAID and Vice President, Programs and Government Relations, Samaritans Purse, also gave an impassioned talk about their members who contracted Ebola and the process they went through to get them expatriated and stabilized. BIDMC Disaster Medicine Fellowship Director, Dr. Gregory Ciottone, served as the symposium director.
