Wearable technology is the wave of the future and The Boston Globe sees that wave cresting at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. Steven Horng, MD, attending physician in our Department of Emergency Medicine, is featured in The Globe’s “Game Changers” list for his role in leading the introduction of Google Glass into the emergency department. “Timely access to this critical information can really save lives,” says Horng, the technical lead on BIDMC’s project, the first in a U.S. hospital to make the device a staple of everyday care in a major department. A four-month pilot program preceded the full rollout, giving doctors time to learn how to work with the equipment. “We defined ‘game changer’ as any corporation (private or public), academic institution, health care provider, nonprofit, or startup with a Massachusetts presence in 2013 that accomplished something remarkable or cool,” says Mark Pothier, Boston Globe business editor. “Our inaugural 56 are the embodiment of that definition, and we’re eager to highlight their tremendous contributions to the economy and Massachusetts’ status as a hotbed of innovation.” Read more here:
